In GTA IV there is a certain piece of graffiti that comes up



say's RIP Claude, RIP Tommy, RIP Carl, RIP tony, RIP Vic and etc., these all the past protagonist of the series. If this is should be taken as canon then they all have died and will not be making a return to the series. This all again rides on whether or not this is canon.

To the best of my knowledge, none of the GTA3-era characters make an appearance in IV, so maybe they're just returning to the GTA3-era story now, although that's just me theorizing.
