Quote:CoD BO: Community day finale

I had a really positive experience today as I toured Treyarch Studios, along with the "first-look" community guys. Much of what I saw has been embargoed for a week or so and I cannot tell you any details as of right now.

I will say that I did get to meet some of the folks that bring you the Call of Duty that you play. That was the highlight for me. The game levels we saw were great and I can say that the Trailer is just the tip of the iceberg. If you like Call of Duty, you will like what will be coming at you.

It's going to be about variety this time and all I can say is 'bring it on'. I have been jonesing for another Call of Duty lately. I have been playing mostly BFBC2 (after giving up on MW2) and though it is an excellent game, there's just something about the visceral, heart pounding action of CoD.

But like I said, for me, today was about meeting the guys behind the game and let me tell you they are awesomely talented. Not only were they incredibly knowledgeable about gaming, they  were very personable and down to earth.

As I have already mentioned, yesterday I met Treyarch's Community Manager, Josh Olin (JD_2020). He has matured from a shy, young PC modder who I had once interviewed on BASH, before he joined Treyarch, into this very dynamic and erudite spokesman for one of the best gaming outfits in the world. And he's just a kid. I can't imagine what Josh will do as he matures, though it'll be fun to watch.

Capo dei tutti capi, Mark Lamia did most of the talking today and I got a chance to have a nice long chat with him post-event. Mark is also younger than I expected and he doesn't seem at all phased by the intense pressure that surely must be on him. I was honored to find out that Mark does listen to our BASH podcast and he told me that he sometimes hangs out in our chatroom during live casts. Of course that great to hear and it means that we are doing something relevant.

I had a long chat with the uber-energetic David Vonderhaar, aka Vahn, the multiplayer design director at Trey. David is intense and super sharp. If I had a company, I'd want it to be filled with Vahn's. I filled his ears with things that the PC community have been bitching about and I got a lot of knowing nods. It was clear he keeps tabs on what the community (and I am definitely including the PC community here) is talking about. He was quite attentive and genuinely interested in our feedback. He took notes throughout our face time with him.

Another highlight for me was sitting with Cesar Stastny, aka PCDev. His team will be bringing the PC SKU to us. We of course know PCDev from CoD:WW.  Cesar is an affable individual and we looked about the same age. His experience in gaming goes way back and had a deep understanding of what works in games and what does not. Suffice it to say that we had an energetic discussion. There were things that we saw eye-to-eye on and other things we did not, but nothing could stop me from thinking that this guy "gets" us.

Here is an example of what I mean. When Cesar came on to provide us with a status of the PC game, JD_2020 and he removed their shirts to reveal T-Shirts that said "Dedicated Servers". That's all I can say about that experience and I can only share that tidbit because PCDev already Tweeted the shirt (twitter.com/pcdev):

We were able to meet others at the community event, some of whom who used to be vital members of our community. I speak of course of one of the best mappers this community has ever manufactured, Paulo88. Paulo was picked up by Treyarch a few months ago and left rainy Britain for the surf, sand and sun of southern California.

I will be speaking at length about this event, but I would be remiss not to mention the hilarity that occurred when the community guys got back to the hotel. As we were walking through the lobby, a strange man approached young Carbonfibah, a console gamer who has been instrumental in decoding GKNOVA6.com transmissions. The strange individual blurted out something like "...this is your problem now, I  have a plane to catch" and ran out the door. It took all of us a few minutes to realize that he had given Carbonfibah a brushed aluminum case with a GK logo emblazoned on the front of it. Carbon stood there looking dumbounded for minutes with the case in hand.

Carbonfibah was obviously in shock and appeared to be shaking as he finally heeded calls to unlatch the clasps on the case.

Clearly, this was yet another clue related to the gknova6.com site.

The aluminum case consisted of a few documents and interestingly enough, a Cell-Phone. Rather than heading out back into the Santa Monica night to look for chicks, these dedicated gamers are now busy trying to decipher this next clue.

See picture here.

We'll be talking much more about the game after the embargo lifts.

Seems interesting? :)

There is a new video on gametrailers where one of the devs said at the end "and yes, there will be dedicated servers" :)

I'm getting pretty convinced that CoD7 will be a _lot_ better than CoD3 and 5.

Probably better than MW2 as well. :P

Can't wait to see how Create Class 2.0 will look like.

I like the whole CC2.0 thing but I hope they keep it realistic.
After all this bullshitt MW2 wannabe-pro game thing, I need something real.
I can only hope they'll release mod tools and keep the game up2date with bug fixes.

Basically, the more you level up, the more perks you get to add in your overpowered gun for some 1 hit kill techniques.
