You have to have an account with Games For Windows (free) and also Social Club (don't know if that's required or not though). There's no fee for it, unless you downloaded it in which case I don't know how to bypass it.

There is no way to play online if you don't have a legit key.
Unless you want to play LAN using Hamachi or Tunngle or something.

Dont bother paying for this game if your only after the MP. MP is dead and im glad i didnt pay money to play it.
The whole EFLC expansion shit ruined MP. MP was basically pretty much dead when it was only GTA IV original game and the smart people at rockstar decided to release EFLC and split the MP userbase into 3 different MP games so now each MP game have even less players. Ranked mode is DEAD in all 3 versions. Only MP you will find people at is in Gay tony and even then you have all the people hanging in free roam running around and basically doing nothing.
Fuck microsoft and their GFWL bs and rockstar for fucking Gta IV MP.

Lol that reminds me of a friend in college, last year (my first year) towards the end. He already had a 360 and some Call of Duty (think it was 4), he liked it on the 360. He got the PS3 and COD (4?) and didn't like it at all. He took it back in the box and the guy just gave him his money back, didn't even check if there was anything in the box.

Its not dead if you know where to look. I agree splitting up the MP wasn't wise but GTA IV is far from dead. Ranked may be dead but that's only because people are to scared to fight for leaderboards. Player matches are still going strong and on any given night there's plenty of GTA IV games going on. GTA IV TDM holds more weight than SA-MP ever did. The real GTA players know whats up with GTA IV TDM, its the most important GTA multiplayer. Only the real shooters can make a name there...

BOGT and LAD are rather dead but GTA IV is still going strong and the community isn't going any where.

GTA IV is shit anyway(i bought it for $7 on a steam sale, tried it on ps3 and it sucked lul), sa-mp has alot more skillful players and better gamemodes, plus SA-MP also has the best clan in the history of gaming
