TXD files store the textures, DFF files store the geometry and UV coordinates.
I ported a nice little M4 carbine from Hitman: Blood Money to Source, and I tried to get it in .dff format so I could use it in GTAA. The exporter failed on the skin, and it crashed on startup.
Using 3ds Max 8 btw
