I think you're mistaking things, Levs:
When we talk about internet speeds, ISPs and we all in general say "my speed (or plan) is 1Mbps" for example. Note that 1 Mbps (mega bit per second), which is what they offer to us in our internet plan, does not equal to 1 MBps (mega byte per second). 1 byte equals to 8 bits, so if your connection is 1Mbps (bits), you divide that by 8, and you get your average download speed (around 128 Kilobytes) per second, which is the measure units that our browsers etc. use for downloading.
