You said you have a new pc, so whats the problem with around 100,- extra. Its just a % of the total price...new pc = new OS ill say. Vista takes more memory and thus is slower in startup, but Vista mostly sucks in an envirement with more pc's or servers attached (=roaming problem with user-profiles, printdrivers etc.) I should go for a complete new W7 and not the update (Vista-)versions because than you are sure you have something better than XP or Vista. XP .. can't really comment on W7 .. but I'm guessing it uses more resources than XP .. so fail.

i got w7 (64bit) and it uses 1.5g of my 4gb ram

with internet, music, etc open I'd hope. Otherwise, you're doing something wrong.

I'm using 1.08 GB of my 4 GB with mIRC, Xfire, and Chrome open.
