Ramps
#1
I think there should be lmit on the number of ramps your can do in a certain time or do 1 than wait a few seconds because it is just getting so annoying people are going around ramp 'abusing' they spawn ramps to smash your  car in or freeze you and just keep spawning ramps to keep you frozen whilse there mate comes out and kills you i understand that it is a kill server typa thing but I mean wheres the fight in that its just so unfair especially when your car is on fire next to you and your frozen in a ramp I mean come on wheres the fight in that I mean I'd rather just kill myself with a grenade (not in RL). It like so unfair I mean i got into a fight and some guys just kept spawning them to freeze me so I said just stop it and so TransporterX being an idiot (I was going to say more) starts teleporting to me and freezing me in ramps now that is most likely called abusing.

Just to clarify (Wikipedia) :
Quote:Abuse refers to the use or treatment of something (a person, item, substance, concept, or vocabulary) that is seen as harmful.
I take that as abuse I mean thats using an Item harmfully. So please LVP staff could you do something about this.

I know what you mean, I really find it annoying when players do that to me. However, a popular and fun aspect of ramps is known as continueus ramping, where two players are on an NRG, and both the passenger and driver are spawning ramps in a row, and by adding say, a 5 second limit between spawning ramps or w/e would ruin this.

Also, sometimes (Lead by FiXeR :P) ramping cruises take place, where players need to again continuesly spawn ramps.

However, as stated I do personally hate this kind of ramp abuse. There does need to be a solution, just not a time limit. If anybody can think of a good solution to this, please reply saying so.

Moved to open for discussion.

You know, I may have just had a terrible idea for a few solutions to this. Here's something tomozj said in my thread about this a while ago:
Quote:It's quite funny really, jamming some poor soul frozen then going over the ramp yourself and flying over them. That's just if you're cruel.
This kind of gave me a BRAIN BLAST LOL.
I think there's a difference between freezing someone with a ramp and then flying over them, and freezing someone with a ramp and waiting to do it again.

So, if somebody doesn't use the ramp to fly, they're obviously only freezing somebody, which constitutes abuse in my book. Perhaps Jay could implement some sort of check system activated by a timer - if the player doesn't move up in the air <sometime> after the ramp is created, there should be a consequence, safe guard, or something else that's triggered. This wouldn't be as concrete of a solution, because not moving doesn't necessarily mean you were targeting somebody.

Another, probably safer solution would be to simply refuse to create a ramp if there are any players in the current arc of the vehicle's Z angle (that would be players right in front of it) while a player's vehicle is moving under a certain velocity. So, if you're moving slowly and there's a player in front of you, the ramp doesn't get created. It would check the vehicle's velocity against the speed at which that vehicle would not be able to stop short by braking. This would give faster cars an advantage, but would still universally work.

Nice idea, I was actually thinking that myself, Simply check if a player is in the area of the ramps creation zone, and if a player is in the area, don't create it. Aswell, as you said, checking the vehicles velocity to make sure its not just a coincidence. :)

It happens pretty often to me that some car suddenly comes from a corner or something, handy to jump over it with a ramp. If that check happens, you'll hit it hard and fall off. Not that much of a big deal but if you normally drive it's hard for someone to keep freezing him. If he/she chases you and manages to do it, he/she has speed so can't directly do it again. Easy to escape from, imo.

I'm assuming you're talking about bike v. car here, in that case you'll only "hit it hard & fall off"  if you're moving very slowly.

That's the point. We're trying to eliminate people who stay or ramp just to freeze other cars without going over them.

What I meant with that was, the person freezing someone has a 'hard' time doing it.

If someone  abuses it like that, there should be an admin command to stop them from using it

For example: /stopramp *id*

would stop them ramping until you do /unstopramp *id*  and you could warn them to not abuse it again or they will  have it stopped again.

That wouldn't be necessary if my hypothetical system were in place and worked perfectly.
which rarely happens ;(
It's a terrible idea anyway [Image: funny.gif]
