It probably uses the words in your sentence then uses words previously used to make up a sentence, which would explain why a lot of its responses are stupid. If you say “Are you a girl?” that sentence will have been used before and so will use that. If you say something less common it might pick one word out of the sentence and respond to that with stuff that has previously been said. I’m no programmer or scripter and so I don’t know much about how it works but I’m sure it is possible to do.
Having said that though I am always curious how it uses capital letters and full stops all the time. Surely not everyone using that site uses them. And if it was people responding wouldn't they occasionally ignore capital letters and full stops?
