Motherboard

Well, I looked around for a while, it'll be a HD Radeon 4870 (1 gig) + i5 quadcore @ 2.6ghz. The GFX card is really cheap so I could afford a more expensive CPU ;).

ASUS P6T SE. It runs great with my Core i7 CPU.

He won't be able to use that motherboard. He's getting a core i5, which is LGA 1156, Core i7 is LGA 1366.

Just make sure that you buy an LGA 1156 motherboard.
Oh, and definitely go for Asus.

I'd suggest the Asus P7P55D (around 110 EUR), people seem to like it alot... or the P7H55-M, for around 70 EUR.

Should find a nice Intel Core i7 Lga 1366 cpu
and a nice Asus motherboard model would be the Asus P6T LGA1366

and to compliment that you should get a nice 2 way CrossFireX of the 5770 or above (Depending on your budget ofc) or a 3-way SLI of the Nvidia Geforce GTX275 or above.

If you are looking to play GTAIV at it's best then I recommend you get a card with at least 1GB or more of video ram, the game depends on video ram.

Yes, but once you get a quad core CPU power is no longer needed, then it will start getting pure Video ram dependent. Trust me having a 512mb card with that game is hell for me. :P

Can a i5 could run GTA-IV in medium settings with a Nvidia GT 220, and 8GB of RAM with 3.3Ghz? Would that run GTA-4?

GTA IV by far doesnt eat as much VRAM as it shows ingame.

My GTX 260 has 896MB of VRAM and while it shows ingame that its going to need ~1400MB (edited config to allow it ofc), it actually uses only about 700-780 MB (according to RivaTuner which is way more precise than GTA IV's ingame calculator lol).

And i play in 1920x1080 and usually pretty high settings.

Well of course, it tries to leave a separate amount for things such as aero ect.

Don't bother with crossfire. It's useless to be honest. Even on the off chance that you do get it working, you're still better off buying a good card then 2 budget cards for the same price.
