Right, I think I'm gonna build my own PC, since I don't know a thing about motherboards, I have no clue how expensive mine should be or what one. Any advice?

Yes it would, depending on gfx card probably on high ;)

Motherboard wise I would go for P55 chipset 8) I have managed to find my way through _O-

No. GTA IV needs massive CPU power, and to get really stable fps above 30 on high/very high settings you simply need a quadcore.

medium should be fine though

Even on low res?
I got 30 fps on 1280x1024 medium settings and I have AMD X2 2.8GHz and 9600GSO _O-

I get around 25 to around 35 FPS, 1600x900, with most things on high (not shadows)
I have an AMD II X2 3.0Ghz and ATI HD4850.

My brother had a HD4890 2GB, 4GB of ram and a quad core 3.0GHz processor. 50-60FPS. He's running Win 7.
But he gave me 2GB of ram, and now he gets a hell load of lagspikes.

So basically, you can run GTA IV just fine with a dual core, almost everything maxed out if you get a good graphics card. But if you're running Vista or Seven then you need at least 4 GB of RAM to not lag.

Anyway, Matthias, what is your budget for the motherboard and what type of RAM are you getting? (DDR2 or DDR3).

Socket 1156 only supports DDR3 ;)

I don't know shit about motherboards apart from the fact that mine is rather great.
ASUS P6T SE. It runs great with my Core i7 CPU.

Never had complaints.
Oh, and it does run GTA IV. I used to play it on 1920x1200, and seeing your res is smaller, it should be no problemo.

Btw, extra notes, get DDR3. Fuck DDR2.
