I hate it when people call numetal and metalcore 'metal,' although technically they are metal.
A mate of mine is into alternative metal, and Australia has some good ones like Karnivool and Mammal (haven't heard much myself).
We (Melbourne) have also got some good prog metal bands like Vanishing Point and Eyefear.

But this is all completely offtopic, being good bands.
