I remember way back when that was the standard build. The 8800GTS 640mb was one everyone wanted until the 8800GT 512mb came out which ended up being better than the GTS :P

kk, here's a nice deal for  530€ (should be like 480-500 british cash). due to it being interwebz prices, your prolly gonna spend a bit more at your local store tho:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300 (4x 2,5GHz)  (100€)
MainBoard: GA-EP43-UD3L (or a similar P41, P43 or P45 board) (60-70€)
RAM: 4GB (2x2GB Kit) DDR2-800 Ram, (brand doesnt matter) ~50€
Case: just one you like for around 40-50€
PSU: Corsair VX450W or any similar one (55€)
GPU: GeForce GTX 275 / ATI HD 4890  (whatever you like better / is cheaper)  (~150€)
HDD: Western Digital 500GB (~40€)
Some random DVD drive (15€)

PS: didnt include a OS, i suppose your using an old one or buy it with extra cash :P

Thats a nice gaming rig that will you allow to play even Crysis on high/very high details :)

Hope he makes sure it's okay then, would be annoying if it gets to Christmas and you find out it's a shitter, lol.
