GTA IV settings

OK, so my IV doesn't run that good. Lags when there's a lot of traffic or whenever im in a car and i turn left or right the game stops for 1 second.
Can someone point out the best Video Mode, Aspect Ratio, Texture Quality, Render Quality, View Distance, Detail Distance, Vehicle Density and Shadow Density for these specs:
Windows 7 Ultimate x86(32-bit), Core 2 Quad Q8200 2.33GHz, ATI HD4850 1 GB VRAM, 3 GB RAM, 500GB HDD, Realtek HD Audio

XiZ you could just try out the included benchmark scene in GTA IV. Just play with the options, and once you get 40-50 average FPS in the benchmark, keep that settings and try if playing the "real" game is good

XiZ, that happened to me as well, sometimes the game stopped even 5 or more seconds. Did you install the patches? I installed 1.0.3.0 and 1.0.4.0 and since then it ran perfectly.

If your trying to run GTA IV maxed out then that's obviously the problem, your computer is not that good.

Just play around with the settings, try every different combination until you get one that gives you the best graphics with no lag at all.

Out of every game I've ever had, not one has made any difference in the looks when I edit graphic options. Except Draw Distance. Only ones that make a difference are when you enable or disable shadows etc. So best bet is to just put them all on low. That way you still get the good graphics but better performance.

Well, I used an FPS Fix and this Contig.exe program on IV and it sorta worked. Now im getting around 35-40 fps with the Auto Configurator
my settings atm are: Video Mode - 1440x900 60Hz, Aspect Ratio - Auto, Texture Quality - High, Render Quality - High, View Distance - 32, Detail Distance - 70, Vehicle Density - 51 and Shadow Density - 10

Memory used: 853/1014 MB

If you have any suggestions on what I can improve, feel free to post.

P.S I don't know how to resolve this problem, but on replays of games(FIFA, PES, GTA IV), the textures get blurred and it looks quite ugly. Can somebody help me figure out what to change in Catalyst Control Center(ATI HD4850 1GB) or In-game?

Can you excactly tell me how you optimized your settings? I would like to know, since i know i can run GTA IV smoothly (im above the minimum) on low settings or w/e, but i still cant find the good settings. Then it will be more fun if somebody asks me to join  them @ GTA IV
