But seriously, a month or two ago our capital city legalized homosexual marriage (...about time!), only for the decision to be reversed earlier today because we tend not to have single states have different laws to the rest of the country... or some other bullshit excuse. I didn't read up on it properly, but oddly enough that same city had legalized fireworks (up until around 10 years ago) while the rest of the country had deemed them illegal. Backward-ass fucking country, Australia has some serious fucking issues - particularly in its refugee situation. We (the country/government, not the citizens) have a detention centre for boat people, immigrants fleeing from poverty-stricken countries that allows absolutely zero media access (-ring any bells? Holocaust, anyone?). They're limited to 500mL of water per day per person, though the cost for each detainee (or 'prisoner') is over half a million per year. America's issue with limiting Mexican immigrants has absolutely nothing on Australia's persecution of human rights.
Not a bad country to live in though, supposing you're not an Indigenous Australian or refugee.
