Everywhere you go (especially the internet, unless it's an actual metal forum) there's constantly poseurs running around only listening to the most mainstream bands and praising them. Then you take a look at that chart (which came off a "Metal" facebook page) and instantly see over half of it is crap. You know how big of a fan someone really is when they cite James Hetfield as the best vocalist ever and Lars Ulrich as an incredible drummer. Gah... Hetfield. I cringe whenever I hear him "sing".
Anyway, rant off. People can listen to whatever they like, but at least be correct about it.

Now check that out! I can actually briefly be spotted around 3:30 in the very right. There's two dudes wearing caps, the one on the far right is my cousin and the smaller guy to the left is me, hah.
True facts Maka :) People class all your "mainstream" bands as the godfathers as that genre but thats the new generation for you, yes some of them are but not all of them tho Metallica was originaly a PUNK band when they first got together believe it or not but they changed to Thrash Metal to stay successfull and keep moving foward to what was popular at the time, I hate certain bands for doing that I prefer bands that stick to the genre that inspired them for making tha band to begin with. Epic video man woulda been a sick show I need to get to some more gigs need to check who's coming :)

Never said they were not.  It was more of a personal reference to the Hetfield vocal thing, and mainly aiming past the 80s.

Unusual instrument

Do it, Maddolis.

Re: Extreme Metal - Maddolis - 08-20-2012

Moonsorrow were probably my favourite, though there were many close seconds- Arcturus and Opeth (doing a primarily harshies gig), with Alcest, Swallow the Sun, Gorguts, Immortal, Insomnium, Crimson Glory and Primordial also being bloody good. Kamelot were great fun although it was during their set that the rains came down heavy.
I enjoyed Brutal Assault more than Wacken- probably as the weather and lineups were better- but they were both great.
I ended up seeing Crimson Glory again (this time I saw their entire set) in a small club in south Holland, and got to meet their vocalist, guitarist and drummer. I met shoebox, Terror, Nerd and Banaal briefly between Italy and Holland, but then spent more time with them and Superpain on the 16th, 17th, and 18th-19th. Planty fun times.
In Ireland now, and will be heading back to Australia in 5-6 days. There'll be some big names coming to Australia later this year- Dark Funeral (who were very good at Wacken), Cannibal Corpse (though I probably won't go), and At the Gates (who I didn't see at Brutal Assault due to leaving a day early) who could be worth seeing.
It was a shame we couldn't see Solstafir or Swallow the Sun at Brutal Assault due to leaving a day early, but arriving in Belgium on the 12th in time to see an entire Primordial set.

Will watch that soon Maka, it looks fairly great without the audio  ;)

You better see Cannibal Corpse ya fuck.

Re: Extreme Metal - Maka - 08-21-2012

It sounds like a successful trip so far, Maddolis. I freaking loved Italy when I went two years ago- such a beautiful place.
Too bad that Wacken was drenched in rain  and mud though. The week surrounding it was probably the worst week in Europe at that point. Rain everywhere.
The last couple of days have been in the 30°s now, pretty hot. It's a shame that the Bolt Thrower gig and Alcatraz were on the exact same dates and times though, or I probably would've tried to meet up with you anyway. 29th September I'll go see Sabaton, with Eluveitie and Wisdom. Mostly excited for Sabaton, but seeing Eluveitie is nicely taken with, though I don't know Wisdom.
