After seeing the whole thing, I'll give it a 6/10. Don't whine at me before reading my post.
First of all, the storyline is extremely thin. The movie starts off promising, with one main objective: prevent the Russians from securing Paris.
Wait a second. What?
Last time I checked,
Paris wasn't a small country town about four hundred meters across.
I guess I'll give them props for choosing Palomino Creek - it's a nice city, I guess it has everything set up. But seriously, would it be that much harder to use Los Santos? It's got everything they'd need on a larger scale.
My next problem with the movie is the consistencies of quality in, well, everything. I guarantee that %90 of their sounds were
directly "borrowed" from Battlefield 2. The GSG-9 model from Counter-Strike: Source is kind of embarrassing to use. The other
GTA: SA content was completely unoriginal. I've seen most of that stuff on
third-party GTA file sites. You know what I thought was interesting? If they really wanted to make GTA: SA look better, wouldn't they have their
own texture artist to fix up Palomino creek? It's
not that difficult! Most of the textures are repeating anyways, why wouldn't you just patch it up? Maybe because they harvested all their content from other places? The REAL problem here, though, is that when you mix high-quality mods with a low-quality base, and a terrible framerate, it doesn't look neat at all! It looks
sloppy and uglier than GTA: SA itself.
GTA: SA is a
terrible base for a machinima. I was really hoping to see some aerial combat scenes - but no, of course not. The only thing planes are good for is to
fly in, bomb, and fly out. Wonderful. The use of animations was pretty good, but they sometimes basically showed off GTA: SA's flaws.
The only thing that redeemed itself and fell very short of impressing me was the directing. For a SA:MP machinima involving lots of combat, it was
well organized, and had a good vision. Unfortunately, as I said before, the storyline was
crap in a basket. There's a terrorist who needs to be captured, but why would they start killing everyone
OUTSIDE the city from the inside? It doesn't make any sense. And why do we see guys in the same uniforms, but completely different types? Surely any decent video editing software could have added some variation to the footage. Oh, right - that's because
they barely edited it at all, and trusted their clusterfuck of mods to pretty it up. Brilliant.
Anyway, the camera techniques weren't too bad, but they re-used some which got kind of annoying. One of the worst parts of the directing is that there's
no dialogue whatsoever. This means that every camera shot has to be extremely obvious and very shallow. There's a beginning scene, but
no climax, and the conclusion is redundant and offers no storyline progress whatsoever. Two soldiers and two terrorists ended up in the truck, so why would the movie be over when they all die? There's even a fucking
hummer right behind them, presumably with armed guards in it! It's almost like the movie's begging for a sequel, which shouldn't have been necessary.
In summary, I think it was a well-planned movie that lacked effort.
