Notice on the toolbar it says 'desktop'? In there is the button for each of my desktop icons. It is much easier and clean.

All you need to do is right-click your background, got to 'Arange icons by', and uncheck 'show desktop icons'. Then right-click the toolbar, go to 'toolbars', then check 'desktop'.
