[C] IP for unban appeal
#1
Hi, I was wondering why someone needs to post his/her IP for an unban appeal. Quoting from the privacy policy:

+ Isn't someone's IP personal data and thus protected by dutch law? Wet persoonsgegevens

To keep track of account access and clones. It helps identifying evading cheaters and old accounts.

From the Privacy Policy:

Quote:By registering on Las Venturas Playground you agree to and acknowledge the contents of this document. In the case of disagreement with any of the items listed in this document you are expected to leave Las Venturas Playground and all related Services. No exceptions to these regulations are possible.

You agreed to let us collect your data (along with your IP) when you registered your Las Venturas Playground account. It's clearly stated.

Hey Kase :)

Sorry, I meant to ask why someone has to post his/her IP in public for an unban appeal. I know IPs are logged, thats just routine. But I don't understand the need to post your own IP in public for an appeal.

The image I posted in my first post states: the IP Address is Private.
Yes, we agree that LVP collects our data, but where do you state the need to include an IP in a public appeal? How do you state the need to include an IP in a public appeal? Does a regular member needs to know my IP in order to get me unbanned? No. Would I like to reveal part of my personal identity to this regular member? No.

This is what I am wondering about!

The reason that we ask for it, is that admins cannot see your IP on the forum. And even if they could, you could be posting it from your phone or anywhere else but where you got banned from.

We could change it so you can PM your IP to the crew member replying to your appeal, but that severely slow down the process.

Do you perhaps have any suggestions?

Hey Richard,

Since it's the user responsibility being banned, and therefore posting an appeal, I would suggest giving people the freedom to either post it in public (if he/she doesn't care), or PM it. Yes, PM'ing would severely slow down the process, but in the disadvantage of the banned person. I don't see any harm in that.

I think a combination could work indeed. :)
