I'm not quite sure what you mean, but I'm studying maths at the university and it's really tough, if not the toughest thing one can study. Anyway, it has become almost a routine that I dream about certain mathematical problems and search for a solution while dreaming (unconsciously), waking up and then only remembering parts of it. I've talked to my colleagues and a lot have the same experience.

I not only think about all that stuff (politics, science, economics and so on) but also talk about them. Perhaps you should find people who do the same and take part in debates. In my opinion, that's a rather positive and unordinary personality. Most of the people are totally brain dead, accepting anything they are told and taught (by the media or teachers or what ever). A lot of people are saying that it makes no difference if they think and talk about certain world issues and that they become depressive. I don't see why they're depressed but meh... and you should take an example of your Egyptian revolution. Make the best out of it.

If you take a look at all the successful people, like Bill Gates, Marc Zuckerberg and I guess even Albert Einstein, you will see that they all dropped out of school and concentrated on their own thing, which is ofc. risky.

By the way, you should ofc. look after your education and leave the "thinking" about 1-3. world problems aside for the sake of your own future. If you fail, you will never be able to contribute to a change (in society?).

Overthinking from my point of view is calculating how much sleep you will get, all the different variations you can do; finding out the angle that lines on the pavement bricks cross. And many other random thoughts and calculations. Not to mention worrying and spending too much time thinking, and planning my future.

I overthink a lot, arguably too much, but I learned to enjoy it as I'm quite hungry for knowledge. I can't stand having to assume that something just works without understanding why it works, and that drives me to either rationalize how it works based on other things I know, such as physics and general science, or read up on it until I know. If you're able to cope with it it'll become a game, which can be quite a lot of fun. It also teaches you incredible amounts of trivia.

As for sleeping, yes, thought sometimes makes it hard for me to fall asleep. Quite common, actually. Just give in and continue thinking. You'll fall asleep eventually anyway. You could also try writing things down to see if that helps. I stopped caring, really :).
