Also, very few areas to explore and the levels sometimes end up being boring (even though from the 2nd disk on I've never got bored yet)

overall I'd give the game a 7.5/10

Agreed, it's excellent but I'd have like a little more freeroamyness. Nothing huge, just like more than one way to complete a level, that sort of thing.
Also, an element of stealth would've been nice. For example, on the mission at the dockyard you have a silencer, but when you shoot someone it automatically alerts people nearby, so the silencer seems kinda pointless.

yeah indeed. Also, what's the point of picking up golden weapon parts while you can't choose your weapons and it gives you no advantage overall?

And where is the good old secret room you have to reach following a tricky path that gives you a cool weapon and some painkillers? (I remember the older max paynes had loads of hidden spots)

and, as you said, that tiny bit of freeroamingness would give the game a big plus... following one single path quite ruins the fun of finding enemies (since most of the times you can guess where they will pop out from) and makes the game too fast to finish (two days passed since i bought the game, currently playing the storyline in hard mode and I'm already on disk 2, I guess the end of the game isn't too far away either)
