2011: First Step: Recruitment
#1
I have some major plans I'd like to discuss for 2011. Large scale cleanups, new coding policies and guidelines, introduction and proper usage of the PreCompiler, etc etc.

But before we begin discussing that we need to recruit.

The problem however is this community. There are not many people who have much knowledge of scripting and SA-MP. I think we should consider recruiting people off the SA-MP forums. There are tonnes of highly talented people just desperate to be involved in large communities.

We need to discuss how we're going to recruit. i.e. application forms, tests, etc.
Any ideas from anyone (including the management)?

Examples at least, too bad that this code is, officially :+ not open source, otherwise we could assign some open tickets :)
Or something else which is not directly coding, but also related: describing how they would solve problem x.

I don't think it would be a good idea to recruit non-LVP regulars, most of them don't know the community, IRC or even the server, but yeah, as you just said there aren't many (and good) scripters playing on LVP, so dunno.

I agree with thiaZ, what's the use of letting a developer work on a gamemode he hasn't played yet, in a community he doesn't know at all? I remember it being hard for us to find things in the messy gamemode, and we've played it a lot, so we know some messages we can search for etc, let alone a new developer who hasn't played LVP yet.

Maybe if we really don't find anyone in the community we could use it as a last resort.

I just want to take the topic for a sec and ask has the LVP game-mode been secured yet? I would think of that as a higher priority before recruiting randomers into development, last thing we need is further leakage of the LVP game-mode.

xBlueXFoxx: The gamemode is stable now. It has a few minor issues but nothing major. All known gang bugs are fixed.

Yeah that generally would be the idea.

Alright, here's my proposition:

New forum child board for dev applications. All applicants must make a new topic.

The application:

Name:
In-game name:
Age:
DoB:
Country of Residence:
SA-MP Forum Account URL (This is so we can track if the guy is a nab)
Do you use IRC on a regular basis?
Do you have a Reference?: - This can be a gamemode/filterscript/script that you have released in the past, evidence of working in another team, evidence of excessive knowledge or PAWN or evidence of contributions to the SA-MP Scripting community. The more references the better.
Example Script: Please include an example of your latest work. We're not asking for the full source, only a snippet.
Preferred contact details/arrangements:
Why do you think you would be suitable for the job?

We then contact the applicant in person and ask them a scripting question as Sander suggested "how would you solve x".

If all lights are green they're in (ofc after agreeing not to leak it etc etc, we'll add a license to the src)

Thoughts plskthx
