Question about mafia films
#1
Why do people like movies like The Godfather, The Godfather 2, Goodfellas?
I mean, there is like 20 minutes in a movie that shows how good it is to be a gangster, and then 1 and a half hours of how shitty it actually is, yet everybody want to be a gangster after these movies (atleast it seems that way).  At IMDB these movies have very high ratings.
I'm not saying that they are bad movies, just that..cmon, they ain't that good?! :D
When I watch the first part of Godfather, then the 1st 10minutes I'm already falling asleep...no action, and pretty uninteresting dialogues.
Just I'm curious, what makes these movies like to people so badly?

(I bet like 90% of the forum thinks this movie are kick ass, atleast it seems so whenever anybody talks about them IG.)

Before I go into an in depth answer, can you name a few of your favourite movies, or films that really appeal to you?

The Godfather 1&2 and Goodfellas are excellent films and excellent mafia films- but believe me, there's plenty of shitty mafia films out there.
The director of The Godfather 1&2, Francis Ford Coppola, and the director of Goodfellas, Martin Scorsese, are two of the best directors in the history of hollywood, which is another reason those three films are so excellent.

Organised crime has always been something that has appealed too me, The Godfather trilogy is probably some of the best film making in history 'nuff said.

I'm not gonna answer that question, because I like very different movies and I would need to take some time off to see what connects them.
But I don't get one thing:
I don't understand how organised crime can appeal so much to the people, when the movie literally shows how shitty this life is..I mean, are the few cool lines such as "I'm going to make him an offer he can't refuse" (or smth) , are they worth the future that always hits the guys who say these lines in the films?
I mean..look how Goodfellas ended..was all that being "cool" really worth that shit that came up later?
OK, u watch the beginning of the movie, and see how cool everything is, BUT how can it still appeal to you after you see how shitty it is in the end?

Ok, well, all this is about is really the point of perspective, which makes creating of this topic pretty pointless :D :X

Because these people come off as dangerous people who live life the way they want to, and have lots of power and respect (very much like myself, now I think of it...), and that appeals to many people.

You can answer my first question, I just want a general understanding- not a complete list of favourites.
I'd just like to know if you favourites are
American Pie, Transformers, Fantastic Four, Road Trip and so on, or if you're a fan of films like The Shawshank Redemption, There Will Be Blood, Schindlers List, Unforgiven, Taxi Driver and the like.

The Shawshank Redemption, There Will Be Blood, Schindlers List, Unforgiven, Taxi Driver and the like.
All these movies are good, except i havent seen Taxi Driver, which i plan on seeing and Unforgiven.

These movies appeal to people because they "lived the life". These guys were genius', because they did something a normal person wouldnt risk doing. And these movies teach a lesson, which the movies made today lack on. Thats what everyone wants to be, just like Tony Montana, and live the good life. Its just like that, so what your saying is like someone saying "why do kids cry when their infants". The Godfather trilogy is a masterpiece, because its based on a true story, and people really lived like that.
