bplaced.net is prolly one of the best free webhosts (its german but also has a english page/option). You get 2GB of webspace, lots of features and, the best, no advertising at all.

ofc it still cant beat any paid webhosting, but meh, its one of the best free ones

I never paid a cent for it neither.
