Now, I'm sure most of us remember the 'Vertical Bird' Single-player mission. If not; let me recap. You basically steal a Hydra and dogfight with 3 other NPC hydras while destroying spy ships. So, I was standing there, and I thought; hey, that would be kickass as an LVP minigame!
So, here's my idea of it:
In the ideal dogfight, the players would be spread around the map on a different world; so the minimap would only show where the opposition was. Since the Hydras are jump-jets, the players would spawn at different helipads or large, flat areas around the map.
Each player has 10 seconds to get into their Hydra, and the action starts there. If a Hydra hits the land and explodes, it is disqualified. If a Hydra sinks in the water, the player is disqualified. If a Hydra is blown up by another Hydra, they're disqualified. The winner is whoever can last the longest during intense air combat. Note that the minigame start screen should include a
[move]"Press Numpad 2 or 8 to toggle hover or jet engines"[/move]
in case some idiot is wondering why he's going up and not forward.
I've tested it before, and yes, the Hydras CAN lock on to heat sources on the server; aka vehicles that are being piloted. I have yet to find out if the flares will be a lock-on target, too. Also, as long as every player has a reasonable ping; the air lag won't be any more than normal derbies/deathmatches/races. This would probably require a lot of coding, but it would definitely be worth it. I'd love to see this in the future, and it would be great fun for when the server's at full load. Now, is there anything I may have missed or was wrong about?
