But still not worth it unless hes trying to push 4Ghz+, which is pretty useless since by the time games can take advantage of that power, he will be able to buy a better CPU with the money he could've saved by going with a lower i7.

afaik he does a lot of work (real work!) with sony vegas, where every single MHz counts :), not just for games.

You got it there! And yes I stayed with the 965. Don't care what others say. I am going to overclock it to something round 3.8GHz.

And that also explains the high amount of RAM.

lol, nvm....didnt notice the ECC RAM :P

With watercooling, you could easily push it to 4Ghz :)
