Building PC...need help - g3344 - 10-08-2009 Hi guys First time I be building a PC. Although I have guidance by someone who has been building computers for years, I wanted to check that all of this is compatible and I haven't forgotten anything. Oh and if you know of cheaper places to get these parts, please tell me. Core i7 965 [boxed] £580 ASUS P6T SE - Motherboard - ATX - iX58 - LGA1366 Socket - UDMA133, Serial ATA-300 (RAID), eSATA - Gigabit Ethernet - FireWire - High Definition Audio £160 GIGABYTE GH-WIU02 3D GALAXY II Liquid Cooling Kit £120 Windows 7 64bit £70 12GB, 1066MHz, DDR3, ECC Reg w/Par CL7 Kingston RAM £280 Samsung Spin Point F1 1TB Internal SATA Hard Drive [x3] £180 Antec Three Hundred - EU - Tower - ATX £50 Liteon IHAP122-19 22x Internal DVDRW £25 PSU 1000W DELL Included GFX Card Nvidia 8800GTX [x2] Included Total: £1305 Re: Building PC...need help - Dominator33 - 10-08-2009 Lol, u buy a i7 and 12 gb of ram, and then u buy 2 times a 8800GTX? Then just buy a ATi HD 4890 X2 (or something like that). I dont say that the 8800gtx is bad, but imo its just a waste. O btw, 1000 watts is way to much i think. I may upgrade to a newer GFX card one day. Oh and I don't like ATi. I much preffer Nvidia. Re: Building PC...need help - Sean3 - 10-09-2009 580 Euros for an i7? Quite a lot if you ask me. Re: Building PC...need help - Sander - 10-09-2009 Not for the i7 965, since it's the "Extreme Edition", but it's quite useless and way overpriced. If I had to choose, I would buy an Intel i7 with socket 1156, and not an i7 with 1366 socket. For example the i7 820 or 860. And don't let the name fool you, a higher number isn't always better. The i7 9xx are socket 1366, i7 8xx are socket 1156. Thank you Sander. It is very helpful to have a meaningful responce! Oh and could someone tell me if these are all compatible? Re: Building PC...need help - Hitman - 10-09-2009 the ones you posted in your startpost should be compatible, but if you decide to get an LGA1156 socket cpu you would have to change the mainboard. Re: Building PC...need help - g3344 - 10-09-2009 Right I'm gonna go buy! =D Re: Building PC...need help - cloakster - 10-10-2009 As Sander mentioned dont get the i7 965, your paying triple the price for a small increase in performance over the 860 or 920. You can easily overclock the i7's to 965 speeds and even higher with that liquid cooling setup. |
