Selling laptop, buying desktop + notebook - Limited Budget

I know there's a whole lot of topics on this subject already, but I'm creating my own anyway (my situation is probably a little rare; and besides, I want personal treatment too!)

So here's the deal:
I am currently in possession of a laptop (or to be exact, a Toshiba Satellite A100-049). The model has been around since early 2007 (I got mine just over two years ago). It cost over $1600 back then (although that is the Swedish pricing - in the states and elsewhere the price should've been noticably lower).

Specs are as follows:

• CPU: 1.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T5500
  
• RAM: 2GB DDR2 RAM
  
• HDD: 120GB
  
• Screen: 15.4in, 1280x800 display
  
• Graphics: 256MB nVidia GeForce Go 7300
  
• OS: Windows Vista Home Premium

Basically, I want to sell that one and buy a desktop computer. If I do, I will miss the possibility to carry a computer with me - so if I can, I'm going to get one of those cheap, small, notebooks as well. However, I have a limited budget... probably around $700 (plus what I get for selling my current laptop).

So I need help with a few things:

• estimating what I can get for my Toshiba laptop
  
• picking parts for the desktop computer
  
• (eventually) choosing a cheap notebook with long battery life 
  

I'll try reading some other topics on the subject too and see if I can find anything useful there.

Well, $700 is all I'm throwing in, but I'll of course use the money I get from selling my laptop too.

There is no such thing as Swedish dollars, that's $700 USD plus what I get for my laptop (say $500 at least).

I haven't decided on a particular store yet, but http://www.webhallen.com/start.php has a lot of stuff (although isn't the cheapest place around).. Some other cheaper possibilities include http://www.komplett.se/ and http://www.pixmania.com

And if I can't afford a desktop + notebook, I'll skip the latter of those

Oh there are better sites than them, komplett is quite expensive.

Oh there are better sites than them, komplett is quite expensive.

Hmm, okay, that's quite disappointing to be honest, I'd expect more from something that cost $1600 two years ago. Suppose you're right though; would I actually get something decent for $1000 USD?

Computer technology advances very quickly. New and better components come out all the time making a 2 year old computer pretty old.

Look what you can get brand new for $500-$550 and you will see why im saying such a low resale value. And even if the parts make it worth $400, the fact that its used will drop the value by like $50-80.

So your budget is around 5050 SEK?

Out of the 3 stores, Kimplett is the only one i can navigate since its an actual computer store so the fact that im giving links from there does not mean that its the cheapest
