New ship ramp system.
#1
Hey, as a member of the fighting element of the LVP community I gotta say I (and others) strongly oppose the new ramp system.
For hundreds of hours I've seen people run off the ship, throw grenades at the gangwars outside and run back while on |  | health. Most of the time they cannot be killed as the barrier (ship ramp as it is) is easy enough to jump over, but we do have the odd chance to kill whoever tries to escape like that.

The barrier was initially put up to stop vehicles from ramming onto the ship, but doubled nicely as a low-difficulty anti-run device (heh, "anti-run device").
Unfortunately with this new system, running will be incredibly easy, which will result in more successful running and a lot more flame, as well as bikes being able to squeeze through the gaps and drive onto the ship freely.

As for the roleplayers, they can /taxi 0 or jump over the ship barrier easily enough. Most of the time they're running for the ship is for idling anyway, and not to make money or chat.

Many people support my view, but I'd like to hear some counterarguments.

I was thinking about a ramp-shaped barrier myself some time ago, that allows you to run off the ship without having to jump, but you won't get on it wihout jumping

Yeah great idea, that'd help roleplayers and fighters alike.

I agree, the thing I like about the current barrier system is that people have to climb over it, making it harder to run. With people running to the ship with more ease, it's been proven that more flame comes along. I'm not saying stick with this barrier, but you know... change it maybe? I like Twilights idea, an inclined plane sloping from the ship and up, people have to climb the other side of it, while people on the ship ramp can run off. 100% for that

I actually have no idea why this new system was introduced, so I can't really say wether it can be changed.
Though I like Twilight's idea very much, I'll do some testing with that later today, and if I manage to make something nice, I'll discuss it with the other developers.

And why are there gang wars in front of the ship? Because gangmember are waiting for easy kills to leave the ship. There are various other areas where gang people can fight, but they usually wait before the ship. Gangfights also start there because gang members are concentrated. Bullets hit the ramp and I like the new ramp because it shuts of a lot of bullets. My advice to DM'ers is: find a new spot to fight and especially, fight each other, not noobs :P

I dunno why it is there either :+
We'll wait for Jay to get to know why.

I like Twilights idea. But in addition, I heard a lot of people complain about the water underneath the ramp. People run under there, as you don't have to jump on it. So I suggest (not my idea originally) to place some objects there to prevent that from happening.

There is a downside on the current rail too, people who don't like to fight, or just don't feel like it at that moment, that try to get on the ship and get killed. You can say they should just use /taxi 0 but there's also a lot of people who don't really use such commands, to make it more realistic.

Anyway, another idea, from Nakebod, is to add more piles, high ones and low ones. The low ones so you can still jump over it.

Good luck telling 200 people to fight somewhere else, after 2 years of being accustomed to fighting outside the ship.

Yes, many people would love objects to be placed there to prevent people from running there.
There's enough flame at people running under the ramp, I can't imagine how much there'd be with the new system.

I actually got the idea from LVP 3.0. I thought it would make things a lot easier for players, saving them the chance of climbing over the rail to get off the ship (It gets annoying imo :P)

But anyway, I personally don't fight much around the ship so I wouldn't know how much of a pain ship laming is. But I do agree with Stef on some points, why do you guys have to dm around the ship anyway? The main intention of the ship was a place to 'relax' from fighters, and yet you can't walk off it without being shot normally.

As mentioned, if we did change it back to the original ramp it could effect roleplayers, mainly because of the new anti-laming system - It detects if a player is in a fight and disables teleport commands, but since roleplayers don't fight anyway, the new taxi system has a taxi arrival time feature as most of you have probably noticed, so it will be a lot harder for them to escape on to the ship if they are being shot.

Anywho, Wesley and Nakebod are working on a new shiprail right now, No idea what they have in mind. And they told me that just as I was about to finish of this post :'(

EDIT: Actually, I got a better idea, we could leave it up to the admin! A command to change the shiprail type ingame, the original ship rail, the current one, and the one Nakebod/Wesley are whipping up. I dunno where I think em up :P

I feel nothing for a changing thing, that'd be annoying. One time people can drive through with bikes, then they have to jump over a rail and then the other idea.
