Switching boring vehicles with interesting ones.

G'day community~ I pm'd Jay not too long ago, but thought I'd share my idea more publicly than I have already ingame by posting here (feel free to move to 'Open for Discussion' if you want).

Quote:Hi Jay,

I heard from estroe that there won't be any further development on 2.8x, however I have a very small suggestion. I don't know a great deal about scripting, but I can imagine this would be relatively easy to do.

I've driven round LVP noting the names of some of the less popular, less interesting, more common and more mainstream cars- such as the Pony, Emperor, and especially the Yosemite (pickup truck), Solair (hatchback sedan) and the yankee (boring truck I haven't seen anybody even touch).

I (and many other friends, allies and randoms I have asked) would like to substitude the Sabre in place of one of these boring vehicles.

Sabre 475
Yankee 456
Yosemite 554
Solair 458

As I said, I don't know very much about scripting but if it does mean simple substituting "475" into "456" or any of the other numbers (or take work of maximum time 5-10 minutes), it would be greatly appreciated. Such a small change can elevate the amount of fun cruisers have ingame immensely.

Thanks for reading,
Maddolis.

I recently heard from Marcel/Extinction[HC4L] (somebody who actually knows a thing or two about scripting, to say the least :P) that:
Quote:<~Marcel> Maddolis it takes 2 minutes
<~Marcel> You click edit, find and replace
<~Marcel> fill in 475 then fill in 456
<~Marcel> click yes to all

So it is seemingly simple to do.

I'd personally suggest (apart from the Sabre, ID 475) to use the biker bike (Freeway, 463).

With no set release date on 2.9, it could be months away, and for the time up until then we may as well have a couple more interesting vehicles to ride.

Thanks,
Maddolis.

As I already told you on IRC now, there may just be some things done to 2.8x, just not to vehicles. Jay announced that a long long time ago already. Up to him if he changes or not.

Oh cool, so maybe Jay can (out of the kindness of his enormous heart :):)) substitute the Sabre into the Yankee's spot... Jay did I ever mention how much we all (especially me) love you?

Lol to be honest I don't even remember that PM, guess my memory fails :P
EDIT: Oh, wait. Just noticed lol. I fail

It would indeed be possible to change certain vehicles in 2.85, but there are certain issues with doing so. Although Marcel is correct about using the replace function which makes it easy, he is forgetting one thing - Not every vehicle fits everywhere. Certain types of vehicles in 2.85 are specifically placed, and other vehicle types which are different shapes and sizes may not fit and spawn in a position making them difficult to enter. If we did proceed with changing them though, we could check over and fix any vehicles which do spawn badly, but to be honest, personally, I don't have hardly any time on my hands, I'll try to remember to mention it in the development IRC channel to see if anyone else is willing to do it next time on IRC. It may not be neccassary though, I mean, lets face it, the sabre and Yosemite are ~ the same size, not that much different compared to things like coaches and bikes :P

2.90 won't be to long now hopefully anyway, and does feature both Freeways and Sabres in the brand new, improved vehicle layout and random vehicle spawner. Try !progress next time your in one of the lvp channels :)

Thanks Jay- just a point of interest, the sabre is about half the height and 3/4 the width of a 'Yankee' which I never see people drive. If you could get someone to do it on irc it'd be greatly appreciated.

If for some reason you'd like to keep the yankee, there's a Sentinel, Vincent, Sunrise, Emperor and Sultan, all 4 door sedans- not that the Sultan should be removed or replaced, but perhaps the Emperor (same size/bigger than the Sabre or Freeway) can be. There's plenty of possibilities, and from what I hear it doesn't take a great deal of time to make these changes. If someone could spare 2-10 minutes, plenty of the players would sure appreciate it :)
