Idea to stop MINIGUNNERS!
#1
ok, at the time of this post there are 43 minigunners, that i know of, in lvp. They're annoying the hell out of everyone...

It does have its funny point, one tp to a crowd and the crowd scatters...

Anyway my idea...

I suggested it to Jay in game, but i decided to post here too, to give everyone a chance to add to it or find good and bad points with it...

Ok so the vallow thing, a player connects to the server and is automatically given the vallow value of 0. meaning they dont have vallow...

An admin gives them vallow and it makes that a value of 1.

Now my idea for the miniguns is to have everyone given a value of MinigunAllow = 0;  when they connect to the server. It will only change to 1 if a management member gives a minigun to a player..

Then it could either be a cycle around each player for a minigun, which i gather would cause lag because it would have to be a continuous loop.

Or it could be used in the same as the alert works in irc. when someone is killed with a minigun it announces to admins the minigunner id and name.

So instead of this, when a player with a minigun kills someone, check if they have MinigunAllow = 1;  if they dont, its autoban.

Yep. However, what if I decide to download some fake-kill trainer and make the server think you killed me with a minigun? That would give cheaters the possibility to ban the entire server by simply fake-killing everyone.

Been there, done that, this is not the solution.

Good point! But then when a player dies of a minigun, check the killer for MinigunAllow and get his weapon info. That way it would only check the killers weapons in the event of a minigun killing. If he has a minigun in his weapons. Autoban.

Checking someone's weapons is highly bugged and is not reliable. In case of cheats, the server often doesn't even know the client has a minigun.

But it works when people enter and leave the ship. checks their weapons and ammo, saves it. then restores it when they leave the safe zone.

The only time it doesnt is when theres a lot of server lag, and that jsut makes the weapons restore a little later than normal.

It simply doesn't work accurately enough to be put in place as an anti-cheat mechanism, the false positive count would be too high.

^ Indeed.

Our administrators can handle it - if something ain't broken, then don't fix it. If there's no admins ingame, then you can simply call one in #LVP, however every time someone is killed by a minigun different messages are sent to various administration channels to poke those who can to do something about it.
