Nice to see you are going to make some photo's. I'll hope you are going to make photo's because you like to make photo's, not for the moneys of the competition. Probably it is to buy photogear. But ok.

Look up for a Canon 1000D or a good hybrid camera. A nice camera is the Panasonic lumix dmc-fz45. A good camera, with a nice lens and with some nice setting options.

The picture you showed above, isn't that wonderfull at all. So good luck in the competition and maybe i am going to hop in too...If native people are allowed too...j/k

But let me give you some more advice. If you are going to buy the fz45, you can't upgrade any stuff.

So if you are planning to upgrade in the future(for example with your price money) it's better to buy the canon 1000D. So you can invest in better lenses, a professional lens on a low budget dlsr gives far more superior pictures than a crappy lens on a professional body. Ofcourse it's better to have semi-professional stuff. But if you are planning to upgrade take the 1000D, so you could upgrade to better lenses. And later on it's always possible to upgrade your body.
