Nearly all video apps in Mac OSX use quicktime, because it's so good. Any codec used in quicktime is used in every application that uses quicktime. But, fraps has dodgy videos - I have a load of codecs that seem to play everything but fraps videos :/ (and .bin files but whatever :P).
