I learned Latin at high school, it's pretty hard imo. One of the hardest things is that you can't translate the sentence in the order you find it written cause the words are quite "scrambled" and you need to associate them correctly to translate properly + you have to move the phrases to give your sentences a logical meaning. You're quite right on everything you said, except for the thing that you don't pronounciate latin as you write it, and you won't need to learn its vocabulary by heart since you must translate with a dictionary (the words to know would be too many).
