Johnny Red's meant for mixing more than drinking straight, IMO.
You don't mix proper whiskies, and drinking a cheap one can be distasteful (as you said earlier).
Honestly I prefer scotch whiskies, I'm not a fan of bourbon (though I can't say I really dislike it, I just don't drink it because there are drinks more akin to my taste out there).
Bushmills is a more expensive one, can't say how it tastes though.
