Rage Against The Machine; Xmas #1
#1
X Factor - Killing In The Name Of - Rage Against The Machine
This is more for british or europeans, as i dunno if americans would have a christmas no.1 (correct me if im wrong)
So the last 5-6(?) years, the christmas #1 song has been the winner of the xfactor, and imo its shit as fuck, cos these are songs that are already written and there usually terrible covers of crappy songs.
So some guy started a group on facebook about a month or so ago to make Rage Against The Machines; Killing in the name of the number #1 christmas song. Imo this would be pretty cool, as its a great song with a lot of meaning behind it, and obviously its in the game we have all played and loved; GTA SA.

Quote:In December 2009, a campaign was launched on Facebook and Twitter by Jon and Tracy Morter to rebel against the commercialization of the UK music industry. The campaign seeks to generate publicity and try to take the track "Killing in the Name" to the coveted Christmas Number One slot in the UK Singles Chart, which has been dominated for four consecutive years from 2005 by winners from the popular TV show The X Factor.[46] As of 16th December the Facebook group membership stands at over 850,000, and has been acknowledged (and supported) by Tom Morello,[47] NME, Terry Wogan, BBC 6 Music, John Lydon, Bill Bailey, BBC Radio 1, Demon FM, Enter Shikari, Hadouken!, The Prodigy, Allyn Hooper, Stereophonics, Phantom FM, BBC Radio 5 Live, and even the 2004 X Factor winner Steve Brookstein[48], amongst numerous others. Many people were unhappy with the choice of song for the winner of X Factor, leading to the formation of a group on Facebook calling for "Killing in the Name" to be Christmas Number One as opposed to Joe McElderry's single, which is a cover of "The Climb" by Miley Cyrus. In the Wednesday 16th December mid-week chart, Rage Against the Machine were 65,000 copies ahead of McElderry. The band were chosen, as it instructs people to Rage Against the Machine, with the X Factor, and Simon Cowell, being "the machine". The song "Killing in the Name" was chosen for the line 'Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me as this is the message the campaign is trying to convey.
Anyone got any thoughts on this?

That is fucking awesome... completely epic, and not in the overused pissant internet meaning of the word (epic lulz, z0mg u got epic p0wned)... if this passes I don't know what I'll do.

That video was hilarious too, gave me tears half way through, the Susan Boyle/Simon bit was the icing on the cake.

Well considering 20 million+ people voted on Saturday/Sundays final, I doubt somehow that it won't make it to #1 this Christmas.  If you think about it atleast 11 million had to vote for Joe, and if they're willing enough to waste money on television votes, then they'll probably buy the album.

It will be strange if it happened, but seriously unlikely.

This campaign won't work. Rage Against the Machine are apart of the same record company as the X Factor - Sony Music. Therefore any money made in sales will go to Simon's bosses, making Sony, and in turn, Simon, (XFactor owner) even richer.

There is going to be some red faces when people realise this :)

Lol, I don't even see how this has become so popular. Media got fuck all to report? Also, it would be pretty cool if it got to number 1. But I doubt it, Peter Kays song probaly will be xD (wheres it like all kids cartoon characters in 1 band  _O-)
