Again, not much into "gangstas" or the whole gang idea.

Missing the whole point of what rap is. People who are uneducated on the subject usually have bland views about rap .. stereotyping anybody that listens to rap or infact raps themselves as "Gangsta" or trying to be "Gangsta" ... this is typical of people who have no knowledge on rap/hip-hop and have probably never bothered to educate themselves on it. The fact is, hip-hop is not solely about gangsta .. only recently has it become such a stereotypical word. Somebody says rap in todays society they think black gangsta all about robbing people and shooting people .. like HaZe pointed out .. you're listening to the wrong Hip-Hop (or none at all) if you think it's all that.

However you have to take into account that a large part of rap is "Gangsta rap" called so because it is gangsta's that do the rapping, they rap about guns and drugs and killing people because they do all that (or used to .. todays "gangsta rappers" are so fake) but there are also other area's of rap .. like sean3 pointed out .. the real people usually have a positive message to send, or are trying to change something in the world.

If there is one thing you need to understand about rap before making any other judgements it is this: Todays rappers (Year 2000+) are NOTHING compared to pre-millennia rappers. If you want to educate yourself on rap you need to go old school.

There are some good rap artists/groups that have emerged recently, Immortal technique and Jedi mind tricks are two to name.

Yeah I didn't mean all rappers of todays age are shit, but being really honest .. most are. And a prime example is Lil Wayne ...

I am O.K. with old school, but I was referring to artists as "50 cent" or "Lil' Wayne" and whenever a friend of mine listens to rap I hear nothing but pointless obscenities and trolling police officers.
