I pay for nothing and only get 9mb (true)

Weird, 9.80mb even though a laptop from downstairs is using some, but when I do speedtests when I'm the only user, I only get around 9.50mb. Not complaining though :)

We pay for 1mb (best you can get around here), yet we get about 120kbps download max.

I think you're mistaking things, Levs:

When we talk about internet speeds, ISPs and we all in general say "my speed (or plan) is 1Mbps" for example. Note that 1 Mbps (mega bit per second), which is what they offer to us in our internet plan, does not equal to 1 MBps (mega byte per second). 1 byte equals to 8 bits, so if your connection is 1Mbps (bits), you divide that by 8, and you get your average download speed (around 128 Kilobytes) per second, which is the measure units that our browsers etc. use for downloading. Hope it cleared anyone's doubts about internet speed :P

I think he means his country only goes up to 1MB atm.

Well for me it looks like he thought that having 1 Mbps speed meant he'd download at the same speed in bytes (1MBps), while 120-128 KBps is the max download speed for 1Mbps; also there's several people who have doubts about that so the reply's not totally useless :+
