Home Hosted Server. - Jerome - 03-01-2009

Hi, im trying to set up a home hoted server and im having some trouble. I have it all set up, and i can connect to it, but nobody else can.

Now before you all start posting useless shit like " Omg your dumb forward your ports " etc.

I have looked into this and cannot forward my ports because i have no router. -.-

I also have a dynamic IP that i can't make static -.-

So any ideas ? Halp ?

And Anyone who knows how to use No-IP please post.

Re: Home Hosted Server. - Peru - 03-01-2009

As far as I know... Dynamic IP means you cannot home host your server, due to the simple fact that your IP will constantly change.

Re: Home Hosted Server. - Matthias - 03-01-2009

Fist of all, dynamic or static doesn't matter. I had a homehosted server for 3 weeks with a dynamic IP.

Secondly, I'll try to search for a way to port forwards your ports. I only need the type of your modem. (Eg: D-Link DSL-504T)

@ Ryder: You can but indeed your IP keeps changing which is kinda annoying

Oh okay, great news for Jerome then :)

Also, be aware of the small risks when opening your ports; as opening them could give people ways to hack or infest your PC with virus. Not likely, but it was happened to me :+

If you have a dynamic ip but dont want the server to change ip all da time there are several possiblities and pages like no-ip.  with them you could for example just type in server-add window "uvhclan.com:7777" instead of a ip if the server would be hosted on the same server our site would be.

this was an example, nothing real :P

Re: Home Hosted Server. - FarePak - 03-01-2009

I never used mobile broadband so im not sure but see if you have any firewall set up and if not im not sure but theres an alternative which you can do to let people play which is setting up a hamachi.

I'll search tomorrow, I'm typing this from ma psp.

Re: Home Hosted Server. - Fireburn - 03-01-2009

Hamachi is a program, that you can install.
Then you can setup a network, and others can join that network.
The cool thing is that it acts like a LAN, so people can connect to each other's local Hamachi IP's.
You should give it a try.
