Something doesn't just become useless because of a bunch of corrupt people. And not all politicians are bad. I know a decent and trustworthy politician.
It's like religion or Communism. It's not the subject/idea that is a problem, it's the people involved.
And if people don't get into politics, what happens when the next generation needs to step up? There won't be many options...besides the bad ones.

Well it depends on the religion I guess. Just having a religion and believing it is alright, and if people actually followed their faith properly instead of being told how to follow it (like people being brainwashed into groups like al-Qaeda), there'd be less problems. Hence the problem being the people, not the faith itself.
