America indeed is screwed, but the real, long-term, problem of the US is the huge, very huge debt. Currently the debt of the United States is over 9.000.000.000.000 (that isnt the english term of billion, maybe trillion?) and it is going up at a very fast rate (also think of the interest that needs to be payed for the debt). The only way to slow it down is to take very drastic measures that arent very popular (like a very big decrease in military costs and a increase of taxes for the middle and high classes).
Because these measures arent popular not a single politician running for the presidency is paying attention to it even though it will eventually decide the fate of the US. Economics are a way bigger factor in political continuity then most people think. Devaluation of the money and a huge debt eventually destroyed the Roman empire and numerous kingdoms. This is about to happen once again.
The only person that I think really is going to make changes in this election is Barack Obama. He probably isnt going to solve the debt but he can make a start and maybe make the US more positive.
Hillary really reminds me of a career slut who doenst really has interest in the fate of America. Personaly glory over the heads of the people for her. John Edwards is not very progressive. Ron Paul is about to get senile as he is over 70 and the rest of the republican candidates are (as always) conservative bastards.
Obama may win the current vote for the democratic candidate but he probably isnt going to win the eventual presidency election because of the huge amount of conservative (mostly christian) people. The republican candidate may win again as the mayority of these people do not have enough trust in a black president (or a women as president for that matter).
