Also an idea for the prize, just a base line idea.

Sign up fee : $5000

3rd Place    : $200

2nd Place  : $1000

1st Place  : $6000    [So they actually gain something from their entrance fee]

Hey, that system sounds a little familiar ;)

It's an interesting idea in my opinion.
I think the players will like it -- as long as there's more than one person doing it.
Though for some reason, I can never swim well.
Maybe it's bad luck, or a character stat -- but other players swim much faster than me for some reason.

One very important thing about brainstorming ideas, especially horrible ones, is that it's simply a guideline -- a thought provoking thought, in a sense.
The developers/management might not make it exactly as you thought of it, but if they like it, they'll probably keep the same basics. A triathalon. Three segments. There's many ways to do it :)

Your track idea is very good.
There might not be other places on the map that combine all three elements in such a way that each is equally balanced to give the players a challenge, but not too much to bore them.
Good luck! :D

The frame limiter can have a dramatic effect on how fast you swim; when I need to do a lot of swimming in single player I turn the Frame Limiter on because of this. (I almost always have it on in SAMP.) Another option if you want to keep the limiter off because of a nice smooth high framerate is to dip the camera below the surface of the water; that seems to help as well, but you have to hold it there.

Back on topic, I like this idea so long as the course is short enough that it wouldn't become tedious; the original suggestion looks like it's short enough but I haven't actually tried it out yet. As Nooblet mentioned, though, biking is normally the second piece.
