Also, there is already multiplayer modes on san andreas. IMO they suck, but they are WAY better than having some one watch you play.

Sure they know about this SA-MP. Half of their employees is playing LVP everyday. ;)

Say ROckstar didnt know about SA-MP, then found out and didnt like it, could they shut it down?

since sa-mp is no commercial product, I think they won't even try to shut it down.
sa-mp doesn't support downloading the game, it is doing nothing illegal.

They're just happy that people enjoy the game.

I didnt say that they will shut it down because it is doing something illeagle. But they own the game. SAMP is just a modification. The modification NEEDS the game. Rockstar OWNS the game.

But ofcourse, they probably wont do it since they realise that its an untapped market. If anything, they appreciate the work done. But the fact still remains. If they wanted, they can shut down samp in less than 5 minutes. That is, the time it takes for the webmaster of sa-mp to read the letter and act on it.

didn't the sa-mp devs needed permission from R* to get the source code?

(I don't know any of that stuff, so I'm probably wrong :+ )
