I have a few thoughts about this topic.
Firstly, I never
promised to finish houses by today. It certainly was my intention, and I have spent a lot of hours this weekend into making this happen— you've been using them on the beta server yourself.
Secondly, people seem to underestimate what we mean by
houses. Yes, the first launch will be bare, but this is intentionally so. The feature, the code and the database have been designed for extensibility. This makes development slower, but we'll regain all of this time, and more, shortly after initial release.
We envision houses to become the base of many new features. If your house has a wardrobe, let's make it possible to customize your character. If you're part of a gang, let's develop gang zones based on the distribution of the member's houses. If we have that, then why not let gangs decorate their exterior too; barrels and watch towers are great for defense.
Not too different from these ideas, you also contributed some complications. The possibility of owning multiple houses is now considered throughout the code, so we can enable that at some point in the future. You also suggested being able to sell your house as-is: this idea required some changes as well. Don't even get me started on things like renting your place out.
Finally, there is an incredible number of prerequisites to houses. We fixed the economy, which was an incredible amount of work (50+ commits right there), interior markers had to be managed by our code as opposed to Grand Theft Auto (to my knowledge we're the first server doing so), and in order to scale the feature properly we need new streamers for almost every kind of entity.
So why did I not finish it? I unfortunately fell asleep on my sofa whilst reading. I hadn't been feeling well for a few days, but the rest did me good.
That brings me to this topic.
First of all, there are a large number of deleted posts in this topic. I would remind everybody to read and consider the
Code of Conduct in their postings, player or staff.
That said, I share your disappointment. I would have very much liked to get the feature out prior to my holiday since I've been working on it for a long time. It would change a lot of the aforementioned to become mere weekend projects, and I like those.
I do appreciate your enthusiasm for these features, but please be aware that it puts a drain on people —on me— as well. At a certain point the expectations get out of bound and it becomes hard to follow up on them. That is in nobody's interest.
There will of course not be any repercussions. The up side of your enthusiasm is that it creates for a motivator as well

.
Thanks,
Russell
