Yea but I don't really like Metal, and I've tried getting into it numerous times but I guess it's just impossible :P
I do love some Metal songs, but only the unique ones I suppose.

Something like this:

Maximum The Hormone - Bikini Sports Ponchin (HQ)

Even though I don't understand except a few words. (the English ones xD)
Also, "Hero" by Skillet is one of my favorite songs, I don't know why I never thought of trying other songs from Skillet O_o

I also love songs with meaningful lyrics, if the lyrics move me then the genre may not matter. What made me love Eminem in the first place is his powerful use of words that can move all the emotions in you.

Edit: Metalingus-Alter Bridge is awesome.

Nu-metal is far from unique. It's actually the most generic style of "metal" out there. As for Skillet, that's Christian rock.

Anyway, this is actual metal, which happens to be my favourite genre of music. An example of heavy, thrash and progressive:

Judas Priest - The Hellion/Electric Eye {Original}

Megadeth - Holy Wars...The Punishment Due (HD/1080p)

Opeth - The Leper Affinity with lyrics

Well, maybe unique wasn't the right word... I think "light" would be a better word to describe that song compared to most Metal songs. I don't even know, meh. I just happen to like certain Metal songs and dislike the majority, I don't know why.

After listening to "Judas Priest - The Hellion/Electric Eye" I get the feeling that I'm getting the wrong idea about Metal. I always thought Metal MUST contain growling, yelling, or screaming, but that song seems more focused on the lyrics. As well as the other two.

For example this:
Cry Me A River - Ten Masked Men - The Phantom Masked Men

I will never get what's good about songs like these. Growling takes skill yea, but what sounds good about it anyway?
(PS: Don't think I'm hating on Metal, just saying my opinion.)

Christian Rock huh? I've also loved Thousand Foot Krutch, which is also a Christian Rock band... I think I finally understand my taste in music a little bit more now.

Well, it's definitely lighter. Not that it really matters though, because if you enjoy whatever you're listening to, who's there to stop you? Everyone has their own taste.
You might be getting the wrong idea about it because of the pop culture. Mainstream "metal" bands are more than often not considered metal by actual metal music fans.
Growling is mostly a part of extreme metal, which is basically an umbrella term for anything considered "death, black, doom". That's a whole lot deeper already though.
Just like all music genres however, metal can have both "deep lyrics" and "whatever lyrics". The last example of my previous post does contain death growls, as well as regular, melodic vocals.
The video you posted is an example of what is known as death metal. It seems to be a parody band though. However, it all comes down to taste again. Some people like death growls, some don't, and others don't care. This is a great topic to discuss music, and hey, we're doing it. No one is hating indeed. As far as the 'Christian rock' thing goes, let's just say there could be plenty of nitpicking there as well. One band could be playing a more alternative style of rock, whilst the other plays pop rock.

It doesn't matter as long as you're enjoying whatever you're listening to. Some people care a lot about what they listen to, whilst others just want a simple tune they can nod their heads to. If you're really bored with your current music collection however, then don't hold back to explore new styles. There's plenty to discover.

Well said Maka I agree.

When I co-hosted radio station I explained how I got into Metal, With most people it starts with what your parents listen to and you evolve from that and find what you like, My mates friend posted a very good story how he found his taste which is really good, He listened to all your classic metal bands which he didn't mind but then found what he truly loves when he got the internet.

Kaboom the best way to find what you like is just to exploring and you will stumble across some good stuff some ways I do is sometimes look at bands I like and see who their associated acts are because they are normally around the same genre and I explore that genre for a while and see what tickles my fancy I have far to many genres to post because there is so much out there. If I had to pick my favorite genre I don't think I could stop at one because I listen to so much but would have to probably go with Maka and say Metal also because its just great, Another way I explore stuff is by talking to Maka, Maddolis, and few other "metal heads" in the topics we have and they post stuff to listen to and I have got into some great bands because of them.

Allthough some Metal is funny, I find it generally depressing to listen to.

But thats just me, other people could enjoy it, grow long hair, dimples, fluffy moustache, stop brushing their teeth, wear black clothes, be pale, seemingly having no emotions, being angry etc...

Chicks really dig that ^.

But let's not turn this into a Metal discussion.

Just chill.
