Spawning on LVP
#1
Hi there,

I'm currently redoing some foundation parts of the gamemode, and I got my head around how spawning works on the gamemode. I think it's seriously flawed! Take this scenario:
  • I spawn in Las Venturas. Play around for a bit and decide I want to go to Mount Chilliad.
  • I get this really cool car, a Cheetah, and start driving there. It takes a while.
  • Then Jay comes flying in with his fighter jet and shoots the hell out of my car -- and me.
  • I'm dead! Oh no! Jay, WHY????
  • I respawn just east of the Gang Base in Las Venturas.

See the problem here? I had business to do in the Mount Chilliad area, yet I respawn somewhere completely else. Somewhere where I don't want to be. I think that's bad!

How about this new approach:

We identify all cities on the San Andreas map and make sure there are sufficient vehicles / ways of transportation in them. At the very least, an (hidden) infernus, a motor bike, and some local vehicles. If there is something that might be used like an airstrip, put an airplane there. When a player dies, they respawn at the *closest city* they're at.

In this, Las Venturas, Los Santos and San Fierro are probably to big to be called cities, we can split them in four quarters and decide respawn positions from there on.

Opinions?

I completely agree with this. When you die, you don't want to spawn all the way on the other side of the map. This would make dying less of a pain in the ass, or at least less inconvenient.

I like it. I'ld just like to add something.

Instead of having so many spawned vehicles around the map, you guys could implement something similar to this:

On this server they barely have spawned vehicles, they use some kinda of icons which when you stand on it, you automatically receive the respective vehicle instead. It would also be cool for the people who want to spawn vehicles at the stunt areas in the main world. I'm not suggesting to remove all the spawned vehicles, but simply reduce them. :P

Edit: all this would obviously be to help the ones who get lag issues.

This is what LVM does, upon dying you are respawned at the closest spawn-point. Not entirely sure that would always work on LVP (dying while fighting in front of the ship would respawn you on the ship?) but it's definitely better than always spawning somewhere in LV

if(city == LS)

SpawnPoints =
{ xxx,xxx,xxx,xxx)
}
if(city == SF) .... and so on ?? maybe that..  and make sure u put cars near the spawn

maybe that can be done

I like it.

But I do see one problem with it.. in the hope of LVP becoming more popular again, what if people are fighting in groups and you keep spawning very close. No one would ever win? I mean, usually gangfights happen in waves. They come back after a regroup. But if you keep spawning close..

What do the gang people in here think? Since I didn't DM much, you should be able to comment better than I could.

How about an option.

Have a countdown pop-up to give someone time to select where to spawn
/spawn 1 is spawnplace in LV
/spawn 2 is spawnplace where you died
If nothing is selected just automatically transport someone to LV.

Just an example, but it's kinda the same as those Battlefield games where you can spawn at Base or at a capped flag.

IMO this should only apply outside of LV to prevent inconveniences.

For example, a gang war is taking place in LV and a gang is attacking a territory. A defending gang member kills an attacker, and then the attacker spawns close to the gang war again. It would make it incredibly difficult for the defending gang!

How about this:-

We split other cities / counties (so not LV) into 8x8 grids, each grid having a few spawn points inside them.

If a player dies outside LV, they should spawn back in Las Venturas in a random spot as usual.
However, when they respawn, a textdraw messages comes up displaying a message: "Kaufman cabs can teleport you to an area close to your recent place of death for a discounted fee of $x. If you would like to teleport back, type /teleportback within 25 seconds". It would then calculate a random spawn point within the grid the player was in and teleport them to that spot.

This is then giving the player a choice. I've been in servers before and I've been stranded in another city that I haven't wanted to be in, so, I've typed /kill as a means of getting back to the main city. I'd be ticked off if it spawned me close to where I was previously.

That could work. That gets rid of the problem of the gangs.
