Obviously you need to think correctly to know exactly when you must fold, raise, check etc... Anyways even if you're the best player in your table and even if you think 2 times before make your next bet, there might be always possibilities of your opponent has a better hand than you. It might be hard, yes, but it's not impossible.

Also, no one will be successful in Poker based only in lucky strategies.

True Gibbs, but you can know if the opponent has a stronger hand than yours by baiting him or seeing how much he raises, in tournaments you can't bluff or play heavily with hands that do not assure a win. For exhample, if you flop a top pair znd you have a good kicker and your opponent has a low couple pre-flop and flops a tris you're fucked, especially if you're the first one to talk cause you'll generally raise(and you'll lose chips even if you're wise enough to fold)... Yeah, luck has his part in it, but you can always make the right choices and save yourself

@Rien: yes, all games which involve betting money are illegal in Italy, apart from the ones controlled by the government or by the casino of Venice (which is actually 8 times as far as Slovenia in my case). So yeah, theorically you could get arrested for playing a 5€ poker with your friends, even tho no one cares actually

everyone knows that for professional players, its hard to play against amateurs, cause they have no idea how amateur will act in different situations...

indeed, that's why I love tournaments. People that know how to play have a "conformed" play-style somehow, not like on pokerstars where people call big raises with 4 an 7 just cause they're suited (which actually gives you a 2% more chance to win) and then maybe they end up winning too
