Sality Virus?
#1
yo all,

Since a long time ago, i have a virus in my pc which can't be found/deleted. After a bit searcing, i ve learnt that the name of virus was "Sality" (dunno if its true, or something like this).

What is wrong with that virus?

Well, everything was OK b4 that virus has come in. But now, i can't open regedit (Run/regedit) and task manager. It also caused to fck up 3D Gaming quality (im saying it because i was able to play games as HD nearly (GPU: ATI Radeon HD) ).

Where did it come from?

I was trying to download a keygen (ermm, it was for photoshop i suppose). I 've found the keygen, started to download and done. I 've clicked it, and boom... Everything got fckd up xD

What do u want to do from us?

Well, i have tried to find some ways to delete/catch this virus, but i've failed. The only way was deleting everything, and loading windows again. But there must be some ways to catch and delete this faggot. Do you guys know how can i do it?

Thanks, LR

You should try and download some virusscanners. A lot of them can be downloaded as a trial for 30 days. Scan your computer with them (also for spyware). I think at least one of them would be able to find and destroy it. Kaspersky and AVG (even the free one) are quite good imo.

Download Avast!, which is a free virus scanner which works really good. Then, download Spybot: Search & Destroy, which is a spyware scanner. Download ProcessScanner and check your background processes to see if the virus is there under a process name, then make a complete analysis with Spybot S&D and Avast!. If all of this doesn't work, try a bootup analysis with Avast!; if that doesn't work either, format try searching for possible solutions on Google, you might pop in a site which solved that problem already and gives you a tutorial.

Just format and reinstall windows. It's most likely going to take less time to just make a backup of the stuff you want to keep and then reinstall windows again than it would to effectively remove that virus.

Personally I hate formatting cause I cba reinstalling/taking backups of everything, usually I get med when I have to format, but that will take away the virus for sure. Try the other things before, if no one of them works then go for the format.

If you back-up your files every couple of days, reïnstalling windows wouldn't take longer than one day. Including every program you had on it. If you didn't back-up properly: you're fucked.

Most modern virus's system restore will have no effect, it will either redownload itself or end up actually forcing system restore to not be able to start. Now a few options worth testing are listed below.

1. Try to download "Malwarebytes' " if you can't keep your browser running or such, download it on another pc if that's an option and burn it to disk/or copy to flashdrive ect. If you don't have another PC or if malwarebytes won't open ect, try a different option.

2. (prolly the most effective in your case) Restart your computer, press F8 before the Windows loading screen comes up, boot it in "Directory Service Restore Mode" (DSRM) after it's loaded up, it will boot into SafeMode, but only allow windows programs and files boot up.

2.5. After booting in DSRM, open "run" (you can just type "run" into your start menu search if you can't find it) and type in "msconfig" then go to the startup tab once it is open, uncheck any abnormal things that you would see in your task manager for a startup, this will be a big help for you when getting rid of a virus such as this, but be cafeful when unchecking some of it, a lot of the stuff listed is -needed- for the system to startup.

3. Manually finding the virus yourself, take a look at the below link...

You can try looking around in some places and try deleting it yourself, if you do happen to find it and the file doesn't want to delete, then use an app like the linked one below.

Anyways hope that helps.
