I'm actually surprised by your approach. It was a warm "happy" ending. Happy is debatable because of Jack, alternative universe, accepting things like his son doesn't really matter etc... will be explained more....
But look at the tech. side of it. The final showdown between Lock and Jack was a crappy fight..followed by kate shooting him. Terrible and boring.
Storyline wise, NOTHING was answered. And I'm not one of these people who expected closure and someone else to make my mind up, but nothing happened on a spirtiual level, storyline level and indeed an island level that we knew about before hand. Making the finale pointless.
Also, by the writers and some of the cast interviewed in relation to the finale they said something will happen that will change everything and how we see the island and the plot. Never happened.
It comes down to...
2 alternative universes. On one they are still on the island, living and suffering in shit. The other they are on the mainland remembering the shit... but some of them have found each other and have the memories of what happened on the island. Then it fade to black.
As I said before what about Jack who lived a whole life in the alternative universe that was different, yet he had a son. Then he 'remembered' stuff in the other universe where he was on the island. What about the other life? His son? Which reality was more important?
All semi deep complicated stuff, but in reality it was badly written bullshit left to be extreamly open with no conclusion with the reason that more will follow.
I would have prefered "it was a dream" ending. This wasn't an ending, they highlighted something we all knew a while ago, and didn't even do it right.
Still, 90% of the population are retards, I'm sure it was good for them. It just could have easily been so much more. They sold out... we'll see in a year or so.
