Time to step on some toes....

I waffle, I'll try to be brief..

You've been asking, as in the devs etc, for new ideas for the server for the next big update and release of sa:mp from what a gather... thats all cool. New games and ideas are always a good idea.

But the fact is theres already alot of fun things on the server as it is such as  /races /lyse /brief /robbery /map zones etc etc

The problem is, and why no one plays them is because... well, their rubbish.  I don't mean that in a bad way. The games are there, coded but they simply have not been polished and refined to a high standard. 

If the people concerned took the time to sit down and look at all of these games/races and spent time to polish them off, make them better and more refinded you'd be onto a winner.

So spend the time to refine and work on the excisitng stuff since the system/code is already there.

An example is /lyse... been around for months, we all had experience playing it so there should be enough common sence to make changes to the game to make it better... an example for /lyse would be change the truck to a line runner and re-do the vehicle spawns and weapons now that we all have experience -  same applied to every minegame really.


/rivershell -  remove the m4 or make the boats faster...  I could go on and on with suggestions to SPEED these games and make them more intence.  Work on what you have first before you start adding things.  But thats me.... i would have thought its common sence, but meh it must be because it isn't as much fun or interesting to work on excisting stuff compared to implimenting new stuff?

And the races.. nice race script already there.. but the races suck.. once mapping comes into play I can provide some guaranteed fun races as others can do i'm sure... as well as /map zones...

My point is don't write off whats there already and start only working on new stuff.

Probably pointless and already in hand, but how am I to know.

And also... the mapping team... mapping takes time and simple maps can be made to enchance the current games.. so the sooner this is arranged and getting people on board to do it the better.  Can work on basic games already in place to enchance as a warmup...

This if from the perspective where theres one BIG update in a few weeks time with everything coming at once in an impressive update.  Mapping is one of the areas that should be first since other people have to spend time working with the devs...so the sooner the better really in regard to mapping

Regarding races, I'm going to show you what is on the cards :)

This was wrote by me about 2 months back, note that any reference to the roadmap is no longer applicable. The format is not the same (title bars and tables) due to it being posted on a wiki-like system (trac). I'll try to correct the format as much as possible






I've been considering this for a long time. It would have low priority until the current roadmap is complete.
Racing is extremely popular in SA-MP, it's one of the things that many, many players love. It would be nice to really bring out the racing side of Las Venturas Playground.

Street Racing

This would be the first thing on the list. A brand new race type which has limited scripted boundaries. Using the race builder, players can create a street race, deciding the 1st 2nd and 3rd cash prizes. When the race starts, a giant race checkpoint would show for every player connected at the races starting location. Players who choose to participate would have to choose a vehicle and drive to the checkpoint, waiting for the race to start. When the race does start, players are free to do what they like while racing. They can get out of their vehicle and run, switch vehicle, shoot and ram other players off the course, etc etc.

Features


* Players can build their own street race
* A street race can only be played once, it doesn't save
* When in the start checkpoint, vehicles get locked
* A 7 minute countdown, in a textdraw, showing before the race start
* In the main world
* Race doesn't end until a player dies, finishes, or /leave's
* Players can decide cash prizes (at their own expense)

Drift Racing

Quite simple: A race based off drifting. Players have to drift around sharp corners to gain points, similar to Need for speed. The Drift handler is already complete, so this wouldn't be much work. This should not work with street races, because it would be too hard.

Knockout Races

Another new race type: Knockout. This style is a race which has the same amount of laps as signups. Therefore it would require the course to be short, otherwise it would probably get boring. Players who are coming last at the end of each lap is knocked out. Again, this should not support street racing because it would be to difficult.

Race Building

The race builder should be changed a lot. The maximum number of races LVP can hold should be dramatically increase, if not, unlimited. Features:
* Players should be able to build their own race.
* Admins should have an option to save a built race beyond sessions. This should save to a MySQL database.
* Dialog use to configure settings, such as race name and weather.
* Support for street races, Drift and Knockout.
* Dyanmic signups. When building a race, the builder is limited to four signups for the race. This should be increased to a maximum of 50.
* Improved spawnpoint adding. A car object to spawn for the builder when he/she adds a signup spawnpoint for increased precision.
* Vehicle modification support. If a builder begins to build a race with a modded vehicle, the vehicles used in that race should have the same mods applied.


Race pickups


Racers should be able to grab pickups during a race course (similar to that of Mario Kart). Different pickups have different effects:
Pickup type Effect
Gas Can Velocity increase
Heart Vehicle repair
Wheels Offroad wheels
Small Barrel 2x Nos
Stop sign Vehicle stop
Road Spikes Vehicle stop, and Jump
Single Skull Large health decrease
Double Skull Vehicle explodes
Question Mark Random
The pickups should sync so that if a player get's a race pickup, it destroys making it inaccessible to other racers. This should not be available in street races.
Race Unlockables


For players who win more than 50 races, an unlockable feature for applicable races should be vehicle barrels. Racers can drop a red barrel from the back of their vehicle during a race, after which if another racer drives into it, it will explode and forfeit the other racer from the race. Racers should only start off with one barrel, with more unlockable as they win more races.
Race textdraws


The texdraws should significantly be improved. A whole new speedometer should show for every player during a race. A new position textdraw should show in the corner too, and other race data split up, like lap information shown in another seperate textdraw in the corner of a players screen. A table should also show every racers current position.
Accurate position calculating


Currently, a players race position is calculated by how many checkpoints they have passed. This isn't very good for people who really like to race. Therefore positions should be calculated (every 2 seconds) by the player who is closest to the finish line.

This has high priority. It will probably be sorted out tomorrow.

I love the idea where people can make their own races... but lets be real here...

Getting new players to join and settle in requires a server thats not too complicated.. having 100's of commands to newbs can be mind blowing and off putting.

What about something where VIPs can create and save 2 races each.. will create variety and probably encourage people to donate... nevermind limiting the number of races and the QUALITY which wouldn't be as high as crew/dev created + tested races


The new race system and abilities sounds great, but its also linked to mapping... as mappers would need to have access to these features first to work out and plan races.. again it makes sence to work on this first like general mapping so mappers and people making races can work for a few weeks along side the devs while they work on other things.

I just think, and I'm sure devs such as Jay think that LVP has potential to be something pretty special and raising the bar gamewise.. and from my perspective it seems most management have given up on it... which is fine, they've been doing it for years and sa:mp is in decline etc, but there are people out there who want the chance to work at making LVP better.  I could be wrong of course but thats just the way I feel.

Bit of cordination.. communication is all thats needed. There are a good few people out there willing to spend time to work on something, something better than making their own server and build on the LVP quality and reputation that it has built up over the years thanks to the work the devs and management have done in the past.
