Straight to the point: Is a TERRIBLE idea.
SA:MP 0.3 was publicly tested on a gamemode like lvdm. All it contained was some random spawns and a few admin commands. nothing else.
Las Venturas Playground is a server with over 200 features, commands, a shitload of minigames and therefore requires a lot of timers and stuff to handle it all. Las Venturas Playground cannot handle 120 players right now. I know we're making some optimizations, but there is no way we will be able to pull off a server to handle 500 slots with the 2.x codebase. LVP still has buffer overflow issues, which, although are very minor now, I could see it getting much worse if we increased player limits. It will also most likely increase the size of the compiled gamemode by about 2 megabytes.
SA:MP 0.3 had to decrease the sync, streamer, and radius rates in order to handle 500 players, which can only be changed on a restart by the way. It also had to disable map icons and decrease draw distance on nametags. Despite all this, when on a server the best money can buy right now, with 500 cocurrent players my ping was still high and I still noticed awful sync and warp. Las Venturas Playground is a Deathmatch server which is something you guys seem to be forgetting. There will be a lot of outrage if we make these neccassary changes and go ahead with 500 slots.
I think we should make this a public vote. Whether the server does ever hit 500 players or not, increasing the limit will still reduce the performance and there's not much we can do about it no matter how many optimizations we make. I completely disagree with this idea.
If anything, I'd like to see the limit decreased to 100, discluding NPCs.
